The Great Swindon Cycling Club

Summer is coming up and Cycling Now is gearing up to run their successful Great Swindon Cycling Club. We are intending to run the club every day of the school summer holidays with cycling adventures in and around Swindon underpinned by the National Standard for Cycle Training, and CTC Mountain Bike and Sky Ride Leadership Training. Our professional and enthusiastic Leaders are qualified and experienced National Standard Cycling Instructors, Mountain/Road Bike Leaders, 1st Aiders and Bike Mechanic. They all hold up to date Enhanced CRB and Insurance. Cycling Now is a government approved Bikeability Provider and has Employee Public Liability insurance.

Club Activities

Bikeability Level 1 & 2

A two day course where students learn the cycling skills on roads with light traffic. On completion of the course students gain a badge and certificate for Level 1 and Level 2.

Orientating Around Swindon

With the aid of the Swindon Cycle Path Map we plan routes to take in as many Check Points as we can in the day. We stop for lunch.

Mountain Bike Trail

Spend a day exploring the mountain bike trail at the Croft Trial. We will learn the techniques used to tackle the trial terrain. We will demonstrate track side bike repairs and turn al the groups bikes.

Road Trips

We take the groups on trips in and around Swindon using mainly cycle paths. We have risk assessed route to Barbury Castle, Roves Farm, Cotswold Water Park, and Marlborough.

Bike Maintenance

We run 2 sessions within one of the above days and demonstrate puncture repair, changing brake block, replace brake cables. Then we all have a go

Course Dates & Times

The Club is run on the same format each week. We start at 9 am from one of a number of centres in Swindon. We stop for mid morning break and lunch around 12 noon. The students often pick their own times, but as we are a group we all stop when anyone calls for a break. The end of the day is 3 pm back at the start centre.
